An excerpt from my Stockholm guide book
My guide book – 2 Days in Stockholm: The City of Islands – was published on Amazon with Unanchor in November.
I want to share a short excerpt from the ebook so that you can learn more about some of the tips and travel advice in it. Ever wanted to avoid the crowds in Gamla Stan, or know where to eat the city’s best meatballs? Perhaps you want to make the most of a two-day visit to Stockholm. Or maybe you are keen to know where to enjoy cocktails with a view after a day of exploring.
Whether you want history, vintage shopping, stunning views, or just to learn more about Stockholm, this is the guide for you.
Skansen open air museum gathers together buildings from across the country to represent Sweden’s everyday history. It was opened in 1891, making it the oldest open air museum in the world.
When you buy your ticket, you’ll be given a map of the park, which will help you navigate the park.
What makes Skansen so charming and interesting is that many of the buildings have knowledgable staff on site, dressed in period costume, who will tell you about the building and answer your questions.
Not all the buildings are open on a given day, but there will be more than enough open to keep you occupied.
Once you’ve bought your ticket and entered Skansen, head up the steps and to the left to the escalator up to Stadskvarteren (the Town Quarter), which is a great place to start.
